About the club

For the dog-free minority.

A clothing and accessories brand for people who are done pretending every dog is adorable.

why the club exists

Dog culture is everywhere. In cafés, shops, workplaces, parks—and seemingly every conversation.

Barking, jumping, mess and inconsiderate owners are treated as things everyone should happily accept. Say that you would rather not, and somehow you become the unreasonable one.

The Dog Free Club was created for people quietly thinking the same thing. We turn that shared frustration into clothing and accessories that are honest, funny and wearable.

It isn’t about taking ourselves too seriously. It’s about saying what plenty of people already think—and finding the others who get it.

How it started

It started at the beach

During a family surfing trip, my sister was chased into the sea by a dog. The experience frightened her enough that she never joined us surfing again. The families intergenerational hobby; she was left behind.

What stayed with me almost as much as the day itself was the response. There was very little sympathy. Her fear was treated as unreasonable simply because the animal involved was a dog.

It made me notice how often people who are frightened of dogs, uncomfortable around them or simply don’t like them are expected to stay quiet and accommodate everyone else.

Years later, I found dog-free communities on Reddit and Facebook and realised we weren’t alone. Thousands of people shared the same experiences and frustrations, feeling that their point of view was rarely taken seriously. What we lacked was a recognisable voice and a community of our own.

The Dog Free Club grew from that realisation. It’s a way of saying those feelings are valid, finding the others who understand and giving the dog-free minority something that belongs to us.
